CELEBRATING
OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE Our
Lady of Guadalupe Novena Beginning December 3, a nine day novena
begins in preparation for the Our Lady of Guadalupe feast. The Hispanic community joins together at 6:00pm (except Saturday or Sunday
when it begins after Mass), to pray the rosary and several
other prayers. Las
Mañanitas is a special custom of “waking” with song and special treats. Each year on December 12, the Hispanic
community begins the day by gathering in a dimly lit church at
4:00am. The song “Mañanitas”
is sung, followed by a series of specially-loved songs and prayers in her honor. The church is filled with families, bringing in sleeping children wrapped in
blankets, and flowers for the Virgin.
We also sell various goodies, Pozole, a traditional Mexican soup, hot chocolate and coffee in
the Community Center all day long. December, 2007 SUNDAY, DEC. 09 NO Mass at St. Willebrord at 10:45am or 12:30pm • Spanish Marian Hymns (Mariachi)............... 1:30pm WEDNESDAY, DEC. 12 • Las Mañanitas (Morning Greeting)..................4:00am |
