Baptism

The Community's Treasure

Baptism is an important event for the parish.  Sunday is a premier time for baptism because it is the day of the Lord, and the day of resurrection.  Baptism is to be celebrated in the midst of the community.  The goal would be that every parishioner be deeply concerned about the process of children entering the faith.

Baptism is a community event and the child is baptized into a community of faith.  Baptism is one of the sacraments of initiation into our Catholic faith community.  The faith in which the child is baptized in the common treasure of the whole Church of Christ.  The baptized child has a right to the love, support, and help of our community.

When we witness a baptism at Sunday Mass, we renew our own baptismal vows.  We welcome a new member into our community and celebrate a new life in Christ.  Alleluia!

Spanish Baptism Preparation.

Sessions 1 & 2--Saturdays at 4:00pm & Session 3--9:00am

Baptisms are celebrated at the Saturday 6:00pm and Sunday 12:30pm Spanish Masses approximately once a month (more frequently during the summer months; no baptisms are celebrated during Advent or Lent).

Parents are asked to register at least one or two months before the date of the baptism.

Parents and godparents are required to attend 3 preparation sessions: 1--Review of the sacraments and the symbols used for baptism; 2- explanation of the Rite of Baptism and a discussion of raising children in the faith; 3-a practice for the baptismal rite. Fr. Ken speaks to the parents and godparents during the first session.

For parents who have already baptized a child here and are returning with another, the one-session program, “Siguiendo el Camino”, which reviews the importance of raising their children in the faith and some of the ways they are doing this.
