Lectors
• Minister of the Word...prepares during the week to proclaim the Scripture Readings (First & Second) at an assigned Mass.
Commentator...is a reader who welcomes everyone at the beginning of Mass, offers the Prayers of the Faithful, and makes the announcements at the end of Mass. These commentaries are prepared and available before Mass.
• Minister of the Altar...assists the Presider during Mass: holding the Missal, setting the altar, helping receive the gifts of bread and wine, assisting at Communion time, clearing the altar.
• Minister of the Eucharist...assists the Presider at Communion time by offering the Body and Blood of Christ to those receiving Communion. This minister may be offering the consecrated Bread or the Cup at a pre-assigned Communion station.
Each of these ministers would be a member of a team which serves every other weekend.
Training and enrichment
Ministers In-service:
Besides the initial orientation that is given to new volunteers, there are several opportunities throughout the year for liturgical ministers to participate in enrichment sessions.
These include an annual Lenten day of reflection, and at least two other opportunities to come together to share ideas and insights. Ministers are also encouraged to participate in enrichment sessions at the Norbertine Center For Spirituality and other locations.
