Community Celebration of Marriage For the first time in St. Willebrord history (at least that we know of), our parish celebrated a Community Marriage on Saturday, November 1, 2005. Ten couples chose to celebrate this sacrament in a more simple, yet very personal, way. This practice of "Matrimonio Comunitario" is more common in some of the countries from which the couples come. A number of these couples do not have many family members here, or it may be many years before they can visit their families and be married in their home towns. So, rather than spend a lot of money on an extravagant wedding, they are joining together to share the expenses as well as the day, which will become a common anniversary for them. |

Each couple that was married was accompanied by "Padrinos de Velación"–the Spanish equivalent of maid of honor and best man–and their families and friends. Fr. Ken De Groot, our pastor, Deacon Luis Sanchez, and Fr. Rogelio Martinez (recently ordained for New Mexico, but who spent time here in Green Bay) will be witnessing their vows. The Mass was followed by a reception in the parish hall, with each family able to invite a limited number of guests. The Youth Group will set up the hall and serve the food. The choir, "Renacer" played for the Mass and our parish’s Mariachi played for the reception. This idea (as with so many others) originated with Fr. Ken, who felt
that with the Church’s focus on the Eucharist this year, that this is a
special "Year of Grace". It is a meaningful time to encourage the
reception of the sacraments so that God’s grace fills the lives of all our
parishioners. Next “Matrimonio
Comunitario”:
