Rite of Christian Initiation For Adults

The RCIA process involves several stages of preparation throughout the course of a year. For un-baptized children, 7 years and older, there is usually a two-year preparation to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation & Eucharist.

Over the years our parish has prepared adults, youth and children for Initiation Sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation & Eucharist); adults from other Christian traditions for full membership with the Catholic community, and un-catechized youth and adults preparing for Confirmation and/or Eucharist.

This year the English catechumens and candidates are meeting on Sunday mornings at 9:00am; dismissals will begin in December at the 9:00am Mass.

The Spanish catechumens and candidates are meeting on Sunday mornings at 10:30am; dismissals will begin in December at the 10:45am Mass.

Rite of Welcome to the Catechumenate: Sunday, December 4

Rites of Sending and Election: Sunday, March 5

Celebration of sacraments at the Easter Vigil: Saturday, April 15

RCIC:  The rites and the catechumenate for children is sometimes called the “RCIC” but this is a misnomer, since there is no separate rite for children; rather, in the ritual for adult initiation, the major rites of the catechumenate have been accommodated to children. While the texts of these rites have been simplified to the understanding of children, the norms for the implementation of the children’s catechumenate are the principles of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. This form of the rite of Christian Initiation is intended for children, not baptized as infants, who have attained the use of reason and are of catechetical age. They seek Christian initiation either at the direction of their parents or guardians or, with parental permission, on their own initiative.

This multi-age group of children meets on Sunday mornings during the 9:00am Mass.  Adult candidates meet simultaneously with their own group in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Both groups celebrate liturgical rites and rituals together.
