is given to each Mother as part of the Mass celebration.

Day
of the Dead
Dia de los Muertos
is a Mexican tradition in which persons remember the special joy that our
deceased loved ones added to our lives.
Special altars are created in our Gathering Space, containing photos,
flowers, candles, special foods, and decorations of paper, balloons and candy
skulls. Dia
de los Muertos takes
place on the weekend closest to November 2, All Souls Day.
Lent
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday
with two English liturgies at 7:15 and 12:05pm, one bi-lingual Mass at
6:00pm, and three Spanish ashes services (10:00, 5:00pm and 7:30pm). During the season there are usually special
groups that meet to share reflections on a specific theme. We have a Seder Meal and penance service
early in Holy Week. On Holy Thursday
we have a Spanish re-enactment of the Last Supper a6 6:15pm, followed by a
bi-lingual Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:00pm. On Good Friday we have an English service
at 12:00, and the Spanish Living
Way of the Cross at 6:00pm
Easter
The Easter Vigil is a
bi-lingual celebration that includes the culmination of a year of preparation
for the RCIA or RCIC candidates. It
begins at either 7:00pm or 7:30pm depending on how early it gets dark. On
Easter Sunday we have Masses at 7:30, 9:00 and 5:00 in English, a blended
Mass of English and Spanish at 10:45, and Spanish Masses at 12:30 and 6:30pm.

Our Lady of
Guadalupe
Celebrated the week of December 12 each year.
Quinceañera
Girls
are expected to attend several sessions of preparation (usually four) which
deal with the meaning of the tradition, discussion of their personal
involvement in the Catholic community, service project ideas, opportunities
to talk about life issues and concerns, and some planning of the liturgy of
celebration. The celebration occurs
around the girls 15th birthday and it is a re-dedication of her
faith in the Catholic Church.
Independence
September 16
marks Mexican Independence Day. We are
involved with the planning of the city events, and have hosted a celebration
in our parish hall as well.

Christmas
Las Posadas is the Spanish
re-enactment of Joseph and Mary’s journey in Bethlehem as they try to find a place to
stay. We have a special children’s
performance of the story in church.
However, adults also have traditional Las Posadas in neighborhoods, as
they pray and sing traveling door to door trying to find shelter similarly to
Joseph and Mary.
