Ejercicios Juveniles de Semana Santa

It is the tradition in Mexico that on Holy Thursday the youth participate in a 3 day retreat.  This retreat lasts Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.

This tradition is being continued at St Willebrords with the youth of the parish.  Deacon Luis Sanchez did not let even one Easter pass before kicking off this program now that he is on staff full time.  He has customized the retreat a bit to fit school and work schedules by starting the retreat on Thursday evening. Then he adjusted again because some of the youth participate in the RCIA program and they celebrate the sacraments on Saturday evening.

Luis' brother, Hector Sanchez, lives near Guadalajara Mexico in a town called Cuquio. Hector is very active in youth ministry and has provided the training materials with the help of the Diocese of Guadalajara.  Hector's assistance was instrumental in getting this program off the ground.

Luis has created a team of very willing, enthusiastic and competent individuals. This team consists of: Fr. Ken De Groot, the pastor, Sr. Melanie Maczka, Luis, and at least 12 other parishioners.

Who can participate?

Any youth 15 years of age or older who speaks Spanish and who wants to attend.

Luis became a full time member of the St Willebrords staff in 2002 and he is now able to work in the ministry that he enjoys.
